How it works

As oil is carried around by the bowl gear, it's "scooped" off, and flows down the channel, through the main case, into the cavity in the rear bearing cap, where it proceeds to flow through the rest of the overdrive parts.

The front end of the scoop butts up against the inner face of the transfer case.  That's all that keeps it in place once assembled.
