There is NO space between the factory 1/4" cover screw and the bearing cap.
Neither a socket or box wrench fits here. And an open end wrench jams against the bearing cap, doesn't fit fully on the bolt head, so slips off easily. You can see where the bolt head is rounded off by the POs wrenching.
An Allen bolt would serve much better here.
